We love to visit cute, unique shops. You never know what you might find as a treat for yourself or a gift for someone special in your life. Let's take a closer look at Urbanum, a unique shop just a couple doors down from Ferne Detroit.
Let's get to know Brigid
I come from a family of retailers. My father started his career as display manager for Sears in Highland Park and my Mom worked for the Henry Ford developing product. Together they owned The Kindred Spirit, a home store much like mine.
Why did she open Urbanum?
My husband and I already owned 8 Degrees Plato Beer Company and lived in the city. I was frustrated that I couldn't buy sheets without going into the suburbs and so it began. We're located at 6545 Woodward Avenue in the New Center neighborhood of Detroit. ( Just a few doors down from Ferne Detroit)
What inspires the products Brigid chooses for the shop?
I really focus on bring in products that help you create a home that tells your story. We have everything to make your home yours. From the basics like Peurgot bakeware and peppermills, to beautiful candles, a large selection of plants and planters, and one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture. We also specialize in Regina Andrew and Visual Comfort lighting. Every First Friday of the month we stay open until 8:00 and have live jazz music.
A piece of advice to other entrepreneurs.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
Next time you find yourself in Detroit, do yourself a favor and stop into Urbanum. You'll be sure to leave with a unique accent for your home or a gift to give.
