8 Classic Staples that Every Wardrobe Needs

At Ferne our goal is to provide you with a selection of styles that you can effortlessly work into your wardrobe, for all aspects of your life. We focus on finding classics that will be staples, while mixing in a few trendy styles here and there. In this blog we'll be touching on 8 classic staples that every wardrobe should have. This will be a good base for your capsule wardrobe. Here are our 8 staples:

  1. A Little Black Dress- there’s just something about it that as soon as you slip it on, you feel confident, beautiful, and ready to conquer your day. Whether you’re looking for a more casual, look to go shopping with the girls, a bachelorette party, a wedding, a funeral, or a great workwear staple - a little black dress is the answer. You can choose to accessorize it and style it how you want. Add a pop of color or keep it neutral, it’s all on you girl. Here are a few of our favorites that can fit into your day-to-day life. Torry, Cocktail Hour Mini, Malibu, and Resort Poplin

  2. A Nude Heel- not only do they go with literally any outfit, no matter the color. But it can take a more casual every day look and elevate it within seconds. If you’re going to a networking event, a girls night out or brunch- just slip on a nude heel, and your outfit will look more dressed up and put together. The Yaya heels are for the trendy babe, who is looking for a unique shoe. They have a square toe and vinyl straps. A great option for the warmer months. Then you have the Raisie Heel that’s similar to the Yaya in the sense that it has vinyl straps. But this one’s a little more classic with the traditional ankle strap detail. Lastly, our Jody Heel is a no-brainer. It’s a traditional nude heel that you can style with literally anything, from work to play.

  3. A Simple Button Down- a solid color blouse will become a staple in your wardrobe, that you’ll find yourself reaching for on a day-to-day basis. You can easily layer them, style them on their own, or wear them open. Two of our favorites right now are the Kiralin and Adie blouses. Both are a short sleeve, solid button down tops. We love to style them open over a seamless tank with Jean shorts or bike shorts for summer. The Adie is also a great option to style tucked into your favorite midi skirt with a heel for a business meeting.

  4. Non-Distressed Jeans- I know it can be hard to find a pair of jeans without destruction nowadays. But when you find them, don’t pass up your opportunity to snag a pair. They're a great option to have in your wardrobe, because you can easily dress them up. If you can wear more business casual styles to work, a non-distressed pair of jeans is perfect for that. Our high-rise wide leg jeans are the perfect option! Not only do they not have destruction, but they’re a really flattering high-rise made out of the most comfortable fabric. Trust us, you'll want to try these on!

  5. A Basic Tank- you never know when you might need a simple tank top. Whether you need to layer under a blouse, a jacket or style one on its own. We always recommend having a white or black tank top in your wardrobe. Having something that’s a little more fitted is a great option when it does come to layering. That way you don’t have the extra bulk. Here are a few of our favorite options: Ondria, Be there or Be Square, and the Janice Tank. Do yourself a favor, and add a couple staple tanks to your wardrobe, as we approach the summer months.

  6. Trousers- these aren’t just a work staple, there must even for every day. On the days where you just don’t want to wear jeans or leggings, a trouser is a great option. We love to see a trouser paired with a graphic tee and a jean jacket for a super cute weekend look. The Jennifer trouser is a great option for that. The faux leather gives it that chic feel. A white trouser for your summer wardrobe is a must. We recommend the Serene trousers. If you’re looking for that, classic trouser that you’ll be styling for years to come, the Take the Lead Trouser is a good option. They are navy and super high-rise. They have a tapered fit that creates a slender look.

  7. A Neutral Blazer- we’ve mentioned it before, and will mention it again, wearing a blazer over any look, can turn it from casual to elevated just like that. And a blazer doesn’t have to read office professional. To me, it just shows a chic, and put together look. Styling a blazer over a camisole with denim and a nude heel for girls night out is a fun way to layer without throwing on a traditional jacket. Plus you never know when you might need a blazer for an interview or the workplace. Our Cinema blazer is a great neutral that can easily be styled with any color top or bottoms.

  8. A Moto Jacket- this style is underrated! A moto jacket is more dressy than a jean jacket, but just as easy to style. Typically you can find a moto jacket that has a little bit more tailoring to it, so it’s a great option to wear over a midi dress or even a blouse. The Electra Moto jacket is everything you can dream of and more. It’s a neutral, color, super comfortable, and a great way to style your round.

That wraps up the eight classic staples that we recommend you have in your wardrobe. Even if you have just three in your wardrobe, right now, you’re off to a great start. Having all eight of them, is the perfect base to a capsule wardrobe. It makes your life easier when it comes to styling looks for the different events in your life.
