It's a new month, a month filled with more business highlights. We're kicking April off with Sisu and Tyyli. An amazing brow and lash studio! Let's learn more about Lindsey and her business.
Let's get to know Lindsey
I've been in the spa/salon industry since I was 19. I got my first job working the front desk at a small spa and quickly realized I was more interested in skincare, waxing, and selling product so I saved up and put myself through esthetics school. At 23 I was hired by a large luxury spa where I focused on European skincare and waxing. As the only fulltime esthetician there I was eventually put in charge of training new employees, which I loved but I was craving more control over my schedule and finances.
What pushed Lindsey to open Sisu and Tyyli
I went back to school for my cosmetology license because at the time I thought I wanted to open my own spa/salon but halfway through the program I found out about lash extensions and just knew this was going to be the next big beauty boom. I took a leave of absence from cos school to fly to Houston TX and was trained by the president of NovaLash eyelash extensions and the global educator...and I guess you could say the rest is history.
For the past 10 years my focus has been the lash industry. I have built a clientele and trained new lash artists in Michigan, Chicago, Indiana and the Caribbean for a couple years. I love what I do, I am able to flex my creative muscle and connect with people on a deep level.
What is Sisu and Tyyli
In January of 2020 I opened my first brick and mortar (I know, crazy year to open a new business) Sisu + Tyyli lash and brow studio in Clarkston, MI. We are an upscale beauty studio specializing in lashes, brows, skin, microblading, waxing and training. I always knew I would have my own studio where I could create an inspiring, artistic and supportive environment and team. We are all about giving each client an elevated experience and service from start to finish. Outside of our day-to-day clientele we offer continued education for licensed beauty professionals and opportunity for creative photoshoot collaborations. We are also big on building community and giving back. We have a lot of fun here!

The most rewarding part of Lindsey's job
I've been lucky enough to be featured in a number of industry magazines and collaborate with amazing artists who I admire and make some life-long friends along the way, but the most rewarding part of what I do is helping to empower other women. From creating a custom set of lashes for a woman who is wanting to feel more confident to training a new lash artist who wants to start a new career and better her quality of life or support her family...that's the good stuff, that's the biggest reward!
What Lindsey has learned since opening Sisu and Tyyli + her advice to you
Honestly as stressful and hard as 2020 was in general on top of being a new business owner and mother of 3 year old twins, it really taught me a lot about myself. I have way more strength and resilience than I ever thought. It also taught me to be ok with not being ok and to ask for help when you really need it.
The definition of Sisu means to have grit and determination. To see beyond your present limitations into what might be... and well those very qualities helped me hold it all together this year. My advice to someone starting a new business would be to just start. Start somewhere, even if it's not your ideal location, even if you don't have all the answers. If you are determined and passionate growth will happen and you will find the answers.
